Amazingly beautiful

Explanation: Grand tidal streams of stars seem to surround galaxy NGC 5907. The arcing structures form tenuous loops extending more than 150,000 light-years from the narrow, edge-on spiral, also known as the Splinter or Knife Edge Galaxy. Recorded only in very deep exposures, the streams likely represent the ghostly trail of a dwarf galaxy — debris left along the orbit of a smaller satellite galaxy that was gradually torn apart and merged with NGC 5907 over four billion years ago. Ultimately this remarkable discovery image, from a small robotic observatory in New Mexico, supports the cosmological scenario in which large spiral galaxies, including our own Milky Way, were formed by the accretion of smaller ones. NGC 5907 lies about 40 million light-years distant in the northern constellation Draco.

New (Scary)interesting scientific experience

Body World!

Imagine a show of preserved human bodies and body parts. Imagine you can compare the real brain of a human and a horse by watching them from a distance less than 50 centimeters!
Imagine, you can see the muscles of a basketball player and observe the effect of work out on it, you can compare the lung of a smoker and a non-smoker, and notice the difference of the colors, (Oh boy! The smoker’s lung is really black!)
And …
These days, In Telus world of Science of Edmonton, the exhibition of Body world is on. It is amazing if you are a little bit brave and science addicted!
Watching a body, that has been cut to 6 slices to show the intersection of body parts, I was wondering how these people have agreed to donate their dead bodies wishing to help in the progress of science.

The upcoming fun event: Cirque du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil, Circus of the Sun, is performing in Edmonton at the end of the next week! I am really excited about this event! It is going to be my first attendance in a real circus!

For those of you who are not familiar with this group, here is what Wikipedia says:

Cirque du Soleil (French for “Circus of the Sun”, in English pronounced /sɜrk duː soʊˈleɪ/) is an entertainment empire that is famous for its reinvented circus shows. Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada located in Saint-Michel, and founded in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier.[1]

Initially named Les Échassiers they toured Quebec in 1980 as a performing troupe and encountered financial hardship that was relieved by a government grant in 1983 as part of 450th celebrations of Jacques Cartier’s discovery of Canada.[2] Le Grand Tour du Cirque du Soleil was a success in 1984 and after securing a second year of funding Laliberté hired Guy Caron from the National Circus School to recreate it as a “proper circus”. No ring and no animals helped make Cirque du Soleil the modern circus (“Cirque Nouveau” / New Circus) that it is today.[3] Each show is a synthesis of circus styles from around the world and has its own central theme and storyline which brings the audience into the performance by having no curtains, continuous live music and performers change the props. After critical and financial successes (Los Angeles Arts Festival) and failures in the late 1980s, Nouvelle Expérience was created with the direction of Franco Dragone that not only made Cirque profitable by 1990 but allowed it to create new shows.[4]

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s Cirque expanded rapidly and went from one show with 73 employees in 1984 to currently 3,500 employees from over 40 countries doing fifteen shows touring every continent and have an estimated annual revenue exceeding US$600 million.[2][5] The multiple permanent Las Vegas shows alone play to more than 9,000 people a night—5% of the city’s visitors—adding to the 70+ million people who have experienced Cirque.[2] In 2000, Laliberté bought out Gauthier and with 95% ownership has continued to expand the brand.[6] Several more shows are in development around the world, along with a television deal, women’s clothing line and perhaps in other mediums such as spas, restaurants and nightclubs.[7] Cirque’s creations have been awarded numerous prizes and distinctions, including Bambi, Rose d’Or, three Gemini Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards.[8][9] In 2004, Interbrand’s poll of brand names with the highest global impact ranked Cirque du Soleil as number 22.[10]

Telus World of Science in Edmonton

و این هم کمی در وصف رصدخانه‌ی بغل گوش ما در Edmonton

Check out our newest 16 inch telescope: Meade LX200GPS

Our new telescope, the Meade 16″ LX200 telescope was made possible by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (Edmonton Centre). Like the 7″ Astro Physics Refractor in the Observatory, this telescope is on loan to the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton to be used at the Observatory for public observing.

This new 16″ telescope can be controlled by an external computer running a Satellite Tracking software as well as major astronomy programs, like Starry Night Pro. Our Be a Star program recipients will be able to see their stars with a push of a button…

It’s a Miracle by Roger Waters

Miraculous you call it babe
You ain’t seen nothing yet
They’ve got Pepsi in the Andes
McDonalds in Tibet
Yosemite’s been turned into
A golf course for the Japs
The Dead Sea is alive with rap
Between the Tigris and Euphrates
There’s a leisure centre now
They’ve got all kinds of sports
They’ve got Bermuda shorts
They had sex in Pennsylvania
A Brazilian grew a tree
A doctor in Manhattan
Saved a dying man for free
It’s a miracle
Another Miracle
By the grace of God Almighty
And the pressures of the marketplace
The human race has civilized itself
It’s a miracle
We’ve got warehouses of butter
We’ve got oceans of wine
We’ve got famine when we need it
Got designer crime
We’ve got Mercedes
We’ve got Porsche
Ferrari and Rolls Royce
We’ve got choice
She said meet me
In the Garden of Gethsemene my dear
The Lord said Peter I can see
Your house from here
An honest family man
Finally reaped what he had sown
A farmer in Ohio has just repaid a loan
It’s a miracle
By the grace of God Almighty
And the pressures of the marketplace
The human race has civilized itself
It’s a miracle
We cower in our shelters
With our hands over our ears
Lloyd-Webber’s awful stuff
Runs for years and years and years
An earthquake hits the theatre
But the operetta lingers
Then the piano lid comes down
And breaks his fucking fingers
It’s a miracle
